Following in the steps of Marco Polo in pursuit of thieves and black marketeers

The Repurposed Spies are back—and this time, the stakes are higher than ever!

Get ready for a pulse-pounding adventure through the heart of Central Asia, where an elite team of unconventional spies—who prefer the title covert researchers—take on a perilous new mission unlike any other. Hired by three very different clients, each with their own agenda, the team must recover precious assets—both human and commercial—in the face of kidnappers, ruthless criminals, and the constant threat of death.

Following the ancient paths of Marco Polo, the “covert researchers” enter a world that traditional law enforcement can’t reach. Their target? A stolen shipping container packed with cutting-edge medical tech worth millions, now in the hands of a deadly black-market network. With enemies closing in from all sides, the team must outsmart thieves, outmanoeuvre dangerous buyers, and survive a deadly chase that could cost them everything.

Can they recover the stolen assets, satisfy their three demanding clients, and make it home alive? Buckle up—this is one ride you won’t forget!

Spies on the Silk Road is the third in the Repurposed Spies series.

Reviews

"I must say, I very much enjoyed this thriller from the talented pen of Oliver Dowson. The author did an excellent job of not only developing his central characters, but also offering the reader a complex, suspense-filled plot packed full of twists and turns. In fact, there’s never a dull moment in this spy adventure as the protagonists attempt to recover stolen assets. There were a number of elements to this novel I particularly loved. Firstly, I enjoyed getting to know the protagonists very much. They develop a lot during the story, contributing very different skills to the success of the job at hand. Secondly, the author is excellent at pacing; he seems to know how important it is to keep the story moving, often using speech to not only develop the plot, but also the characters too. And, thirdly, there seemed to be a ‘surprise’ in almost every chapter! This novel is anything but predictable. So, all you ‘thriller’ fans out there, I’d highly recommend giving this novel a go. In fact, as it’s the third book in the set, why not start at the first book, The Repurposed Spy, a book I enjoyed a few years ago for The Wishing Shelf Book Awards? It’s also a gem! All in all, a fast paced, thrill-a-page, spy/thriller. Excellent fun! A ‘Wishing Shelf’ Book Review www.thewsa.co.uk

“I"Oliver's latest book is an authoritative read. I first was intrigued by the world of Spies by a talk at school by John Godrey, the boss of Ian Flemming, the author of James Bond. Been fascinated ever since. Uniquely perhaps, Oliver lays down the ground rules for a Spy and he touches a sometime forgotten but vital region of the globe in the tussle between Western Powers, Russia and China. The Characters are authentic and believable. The Reader might stop and think after reading this fascinating fiction. Is my next door neighbour a Spy?" ”

“The Repurposed Spy is a page turner. The novel grabbed my attention from the outset and retained my interest throughout. That’s the trademark of a good mystery thriller - it keeps you guessing throughout and looking forward to finding out more at the end. The twist at the end was really surprising! I did not see that coming, and I’m usually good at predicting the outcome.”

A refreshing twist on the usual formulaic spy thriller. This is a thrilling yarn interspersed with an informative geopolitical travelogue, like the previous two, three if you include the novella. So many authors start their series well with well researched plots and locations. Then, once they’ve got a readership following, drop much of the laborious research in favour of a quick write, often turning from international spy thrillers to police procedurals in the area in which they live. Not Mr Dowson. This is as informative as it is entertaining, with considerable humour. A formidable cast of unlikely spies, shades of Slow Horses without the MI5 connection. Although the author does recap their backgrounds from previous novels, I’d recommend reading the others first. In fact much of the intrigue and plot twists in previous books may be spoiled if you read this first.

“… an incredibly engaging book …you are constantly on the edge of your seat trying to figure out what is going on. The writing was a joy to read. The author is a master storyteller, and you are sure to enjoy.”
