There’s No Business Like International Business

The story of two unique trips with a business purpose – but this is no business book or how-to guide; rather, it’s a “delightful, off-beat travelogue with an off-beat much travelled narrator, plenty of vivid characters to meet en route, anecdotal fun, plus an education on local cultures and cuisines” (says my first reviewer, and I couldn’t put it better myself).

Part One follows a whirlwind business trip around half the countries in South America in just a fortnight, in which I faced near-death experiences in planes and cars, met civil insurrection face-to-face, risked kidnap and had to overcome mindless bureaucracy that could derail the itinerary on a daily basis.

Then, in Part Two, I travel around the Far East for three weeks in the company of a obstreperous, can’t-do-without but can’t-do-with female colleague, learning new cultures fast. Oh, and all in the pursuit of business goals that somehow still seem to be met along the way.”

"Would I have chosen ever to read a book on business? No. Would I have chosen to read a book on travel? No. The two combined in one title – a double threat! But what a treat I would have missed if I had passed this one by. This book is a romp. Written in the dry first-person voice of the author, with casual asides and throwaway caustic observations, I giggled a lot. In the second portion, I roared."

"TNBLIB is exceptionally well crafted, each page illuminated with entertainment, wit, and candour. Dowson tenders a compulsive narrative to devour, and to categorize it as simply a travelogue seems to do it a great injustice. Here, we have something of true merit. A gratifying reminder during this ceaseless pandemic that travel not only enriches people’s lives. Sometimes, it presents us with anecdotal manna!"

“

“Exciting, fun, and all-around surprising. A clear masterpiece. A stellar literature piece that transcends its genre and brings forward one of the most unforgettable stories of travels and business, unlike any other author I have read before”
